Terms of Sale.
Version: 1.0
Last Updated: 5 July 2026
1. Introduction
These Terms of Sale govern all purchases made directly through the Pen and Candle Publishing online shop.
By placing an order through this website, you confirm that you have read, understood and agree to these Terms of Sale.
These Terms should be read alongside our Terms & Conditions, Privacy Policy, Shipping Policy, and Returns & Refund Policy.
2. About Pen and Candle Publishing
Pen and Candle Publishing is operated by Lisa Candel, trading as Pen and Candle Publishing, a sole trader based in England, United Kingdom.
Throughout these Terms of Sale, the terms "we", "our", and "us" refer to Pen and Candle Publishing.
3. Products
Products available through the Pen and Candle Publishing shop may include:
Signed editions of books
Bookmarks
Art prints
Stickers
Zines
Digital downloads
PDF resources
Other merchandise released from time to time
Pen and Candle Publishing focuses on offering signed editions and exclusive merchandise through its own shop.
Standard paperback and eBook editions are generally available through third-party retailers such as Amazon, Waterstones and other authorised booksellers. This allows readers to choose between purchasing a standard retail edition or supporting the author directly through exclusive signed copies and merchandise.
Every effort is made to ensure that product descriptions, photographs and illustrations accurately represent the products being sold. However, colours may vary slightly between screens and printed products, and handmade items may contain small variations that make each item unique.
4. Product Availability
All products are offered subject to availability.
Occasionally, products may become unavailable due to stock limitations, supplier delays, printing issues or circumstances beyond our reasonable control.
We reserve the right to discontinue products or amend product listings without prior notice.
If an item becomes unavailable after an order has been placed, you will be contacted as soon as reasonably practicable and offered one of the following where appropriate:
an updated dispatch date;
a suitable alternative;
a full refund.
5. Prices
All prices displayed on this website are shown in Pounds Sterling (GBP).
Where your payment provider or checkout displays prices in another currency, these conversions are provided for convenience only. The final amount charged depends on your payment provider's exchange rate and fees.
Unless otherwise stated, shipping costs are calculated separately during checkout.
Prices may change without notice but will not affect orders that have already been accepted.
6. Payment
Payments are processed securely through trusted third-party providers including:
Squarespace Commerce;
Stripe;
PayPal.
Pen and Candle Publishing does not receive or store your payment card details.
Orders will only be processed after payment has been successfully authorised.
7. Order Acceptance
Submitting an order does not automatically constitute acceptance of that order.
An order is considered accepted once you receive an order confirmation indicating that your purchase has been successfully processed.
In the unlikely event that we cannot fulfil your order, you will be contacted as soon as reasonably possible and offered an appropriate resolution, which may include a revised dispatch date, an alternative product or a full refund.
8. Personalised Signed Editions
Where available, customers may request a personalised dedication for signed books.
Please ensure any names, spellings or requested wording are entered carefully when placing your order.
Pen and Candle Publishing reserves the right to refuse dedication requests that:
contain offensive or discriminatory language;
promote unlawful activity;
infringe another person's rights;
are considered inappropriate or abusive.
Because personalised books are created specifically for an individual customer, they cannot normally be cancelled, returned or exchanged unless they arrive damaged, faulty or incorrect.
9. Pre-orders
Certain products may be offered as pre-orders.
Where applicable, the product page will clearly identify the item as a pre-order together with an estimated dispatch period.
Estimated dispatch dates are provided in good faith but may change due to circumstances outside our reasonable control, including:
printing schedules;
supplier delays;
shipping disruptions;
publication schedule changes.
Should a significant delay occur, customers will be informed as soon as reasonably possible.
Where an order contains both pre-order and in-stock products, items may be dispatched together unless otherwise stated on the relevant product page.
10. Digital Products
Digital products, including downloadable PDFs and digital resources, are normally made available electronically after successful payment.
Unless otherwise stated, digital products are licensed for personal use only.
They may not be:
redistributed;
resold;
uploaded to file-sharing websites;
commercially exploited;
modified and redistributed;
presented as another person's work.
11. Dispatch and Delivery
Orders are packed and dispatched personally by the author.
Dispatch times vary depending on:
product availability;
whether the item is a pre-order;
seasonal demand;
workload.
As Pen and Candle Publishing is operated alongside the author's full-time teaching career, dispatch times may occasionally be longer than those of larger retailers. Every effort will be made to dispatch orders within the estimated timeframe provided on the website.
Orders are shipped primarily using Royal Mail.
Available delivery destinations are displayed during checkout.
Further information can be found in the Shipping Policy.
12. Cancellations
If you wish to cancel an order, please contact Pen and Candle Publishing as soon as possible.
Orders that have already been dispatched cannot normally be cancelled.
Personalised products cannot normally be cancelled once personalisation has begun.
Nothing within this section affects any cancellation rights you may have under applicable consumer legislation.
13. Returns and Refunds
Returns and refunds are governed by our separate Returns & Refund Policy.
If your order arrives:
damaged;
faulty; or
incorrect,
please contact us within seven days of delivery.
Where Pen and Candle Publishing is responsible for the issue, an appropriate resolution may include:
a replacement;
a refund;
another reasonable solution agreed between both parties.
Nothing within these Terms limits your statutory consumer rights.
14. Intellectual Property
Purchasing a physical or digital product does not transfer ownership of any intellectual property rights.
All stories, artwork, illustrations, character designs, logos, branding and other creative content remain the intellectual property of Pen and Candle Publishing unless explicitly stated otherwise.
15. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Pen and Candle Publishing shall not be liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss arising from purchases made through this website.
Nothing within these Terms excludes liability where such exclusion would be unlawful under the laws of England and Wales.
16. Changes to These Terms
These Terms of Sale may be updated periodically to reflect changes in legislation, website functionality or business practices.
The latest version will always be published on this page.
17. Governing Law
These Terms of Sale shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.
Any disputes arising from purchases made through this website shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
